please work, please work, please work

I have to make a paper bag pumpkin costume for Rosealyn to wear in a school “parade”. All the classes are doing a slightly different theme based on American fall/harvest traditions. Rosie’s class pulled pumpkins. I may enjoy knitting but that is about as crafty as I get. Now that I’ve procrastinated for far too long, this thing had better turn out right on the first try because I won’t have time to redo it if it goes horribly wrong. She still needs an orange shirt and colored hairspray to complete the ensemble. So far no luck on that front. Two days to make one costume from scratch and find all the scattered pieces of two other costumes as well. I need to stop with the procrastinating.

who knew

I never would have guessed that I missed working so much. This past weekend showed me how much I’ve missed living in the land of grown ups. It was a slow event and I was on my feet a lot and there were long days, but I was happy to be there and I’d gladly do it again. I think I might start keeping an eye out for a part-time job. It’d be nice to have some extra cash and get out of the stay-at-home mom rut. We’ll see what happens. Whether I find a job or not, I need to get out more. It keeps me sane. ;)

Oh me, oh my!

Have you ever gotten so into a project, that you lose all sense of time and physical limitation? That was me today. I decided it was time to finally start organizing my bedroom, which to date is the most neglected room in the house. The plan was to clear off all surfaces and empty drawers so that Mike could move the REALLY heavy furniture for me when he got home. Key word here being MIKE. Instead I got so excited and into what I was doing that I thought to myself, “Hey, this stuff isn’t THAT heavy. I could probably move most of it myself.” And that is exactly what I did. I moved the dresser (full of clothes, mind you), the huge solid wood desk, and the storage cabinet with a small bit of help from Grace. Not to mention moving 3 large boxes around the room as well. (I also organized my massive quantities of yarny goodness, but let’s not talk about that. Mike and I discussed it at length this evening and I’ve decided to pretend that if you can’t see it, it doesn’t exist.) Anyway, it was all done by the time Mike got home. He was quite surprised. You’re probably thinking,”Wow, that’s awesome! You go girl! Great job!” Thank you, I appreciate that. However, it was STUPID. Very. very, very stupid. I pushed my poor weak back to its very limits and a bit beyond. Now I am in lots of pain. Not the worst ever, but we’ll see how it is in the morning. In the spirit of avoiding a big “I told you so” or “You should know better, now what?” from Mike, I’m just trying to grin and bear it. Hopefully, I am good as new in the morning and not feeling worse. At least the view from bed will be a more neat and tidy one. :)

Summer Fun!

Now that Mike is starting to finish up his summer classes, we are finally planning our “summer break”. Mostly we’re gonna do some work around the house. Painting the living room and kitchen, painting Rosie’s room, decorating both of the kids’ rooms, organizing our room, and rearranging the living room are all on the list. I also need to get my birth certificate and social security card fixed so that I can apply for financial aid and start taking classes in the fall. We have the kids’ party coming up in a couple weeks and we’re getting Rosie ready to start school. I’m looking into a 2-3 day a week program for Malachi as well, though I have yet to find one we can afford. At some point we need to squeeze a real vacation in to use up Mike’s time off from work as well as to get a break and recharge. With very little money to spend we may just do a home vacation. Lots to do this summer. Some stressful , some fun, but all worth the effort.

We’re home!

Our little vacation was a lot of fun. Stressful and long, but still fun. The kids loved it. They went swimming every day (even Malachi was loving the pool by the end), watched a bunch of new movies, went to the museum, saw mermaids, stayed up late, ate lots of junk food. It was paradise for kids. Malachi woke up around 6-6:30 everyday, so I didn’t get much sleep, and the older kids didn’t really include Rosie and Mal in their playing so I had to watch over them almost constantly. It is sooooo nice to be home where they can’t get into too much trouble and I don’t have to stand watch over them at all times. We’re all very happy to be back in our own beds. I think next time the trip needs to be shorter or Mike needs to be with us. That would make it much more relaxing.

Bleh

I am so sick of being sick. I am so sick of the kids being sick. We need to fix the roof a.s.a.p. We also need to start looking into a new water heater and a new a/c. Not to mention that my laptop is dying a slow miserable death and needs replacing soon. *sigh* It’ll be nice to not have so many things to stress about at once. Hopefully Mike will pick a roofer soon, and then maybe we can treat the mold and stuff and fix the ceilings. Here’s hoping.

Bike Week

Bike week is coming up again. I really look forward to getting out of the house for a few days and doing something more grown up. It’s nice to feel productive. This time around though, Mike and Lan are not working with me, so that’s kind of a bummer. It’ll still be good though.

Malachi, Rosealyn, and I have all bee sick, again. We all caught a cold at the same time. Malachi also has a possible ear infection, poor kid. We’ve all been homebodies the past few days while we get better, but the kids are getting stir crazy. I think we’re going to try to go to the park today, or at the very least play outside. They’ll be spending some quality time with daddy and nonni while I’m working next week. That should be a nice change of pace for them. I think Rosealyn gets tired of me after awhile. hahaha Mike and I spent some time last night looking at schools for her since she’ll be in the VPK program this fall, and I think we found a winner. I have to get the VPK paperwork filled out and then call the school for a tour/meeting and see if looks like a good fit for her. She is so excited about school. So am I. We’ll both be starting school at the same time. Good times all around.

Lost Wisdom

Wow! I didn’t realize it’s been so long since I last updated. I’ll have to keep better track.

Let’s see, what have we been up to? Well, we finally went to the farm in AL. The kids had a blast and it was a great break for Mike and I as well. It was a really long drive though, so we’ll have to plan it a bit differently if we go again. Malachi is back on track with his therapy after taking a few weeks off. He’s been hit or miss with it though. For some reason he hasn’t been as cooperative as usual, and it’s been making it harder to work with him. He’s still making major improvements, but it’s not as easy as it was before.

For the past month, I’ve been slowly but steadily working on Christmas gifts. I’ve got a few out of the way already, but there are still quite a bit left to go. We’re planning on hosting Christmas dinner at our house this year. I’m so excited!! This will be our first “real” Christmas with the kids. I’ve been wanting to start some family traditions of our own, and have a tree, and stockings over the fireplace, and have them wake up to see what “Santa” brought them since we had Rosie, and I think the kids are old enough now to get it. I can not wait until Christmas now!

Last Monday one of my wisdom teeth started causing me some pain. By Tuesday it was pretty much unbearable so I went in to the dentist on Wed. and he sent me to an oral surgeon to have it looked it. I met with the oral surgeon on Thursday and he said that I had an infection due to my wisdom teeth being partially erupted. Apparently many people with this infection end up in the hospital with most of their face swollen. He recommended having them all removed because they were beginning to mess with my other teeth. So Friday afternoon I went in and had all four wisdom teeth removed. That was fun. So now I’m on antibiotics, painkillers, and a mostly liquid diet. It’ll be a couple weeks before I can a totally normal diet again. Mike has been great about taking care of me and the kids. He’s a little stressed because he has a paper to write for class that is due this week, but he is handling everything really well.

Since I was out of commission last night, we ended up not doing a traditional Halloween. Instead Mal stayed home with Mike and I and watched some Halloween episodes of Dora and Diego. Rosie went to Trunk or Treat with my parents and siblings. She was Princess Dora. My mom said she had a lot of fun playing games and jumping in the bounce house. She came home with lots of candy, which has been put out of reach since she and Mal want to eat it all.

Anyway, it’s time to put the little ones to bed. I may put myself to bed early tonight as well since I haven’t been sleeping too well the past week. ;)

Something has got to give.
